Move to Queensland in Oz, no daylight saving at all any time. Strangely the curtains don't seem to fade as fast.

Erm, at this time of the year it's dark by 1850 in the Outer Hebrides, GMT or BST. I'll get my coat and torch....
It is strange to think though that we only need daylight saving because we decide to start the working day halfway through the morning and waste the whole afternoon at work.
Why not start at 7:30 or 8 and finish when there is at least some of the afternoon left?
