Clipper wind reading in reverse!

Our clipper wind has started reading backwards! We've followed the calibration instructions several times, including starting on a different tack, but each time it's reading 180 degrees out. We had a solid head wind on our swing mooring and it constantly read as behind us. The vane at the top of the mast hasn't moved.

I've seen this instruction on Google AI but deliberately causing a short circuit doesn't sound right!

1. Calibration:
  • Point the vane: Ensure the wind vane is accurately aligned with the boat's centerline, pointing "dead ahead".
  • Short circuit: Momentarily touch a wire between the tops of the screws holding the blue and black wires (or the corresponding terminals).

These are the instructions in the NASA Installation and User Instructions manual.

(If you have mislaid your copy of the instructions you can download them from Nasa Marine's website)

If you have the 5 wire setup, it’s set by pressing all three buttons together when vane is pointing straight. Worth trying before frying!

Can't say I understand their answer!

Easiest way to align is to motor into a steady headwind, it is important the vane does not move (even slightly) during this process or the reading will be 180 degrees out.
Then either call or email them saying you don't understand their instructions.

If they don't know people don't understand what is written they can't improve what they say.

Writing user documentation is never easy as it needs to be written so that a five year old can understand it.
