I know some people dislike Nasa products, but my boat came with a wind indicator and also a depth and log.

Depth display is ok

Wind display is difficult to read as it is a bit dim.

As this item alone cost about the same as I paid for the boat, I would like to fix it if possible.
Is it a case of checking all joints, or are these displays know to dim and then fail?

Can I do a PBO fix?

Thanks

You have attached the manual for the original Wind MK1 (as some web sellers currently do) although method for changing the backlight level is the same.If there is a number in the btm left of screen and this doesn't change when you press the ILLUM button then after checking the connections and voltage are OK ring NASA.From my experience I thought the light was more durable than the main function.

PS I see that you probably have the MK1 unit and are deterred by the cost of a V2.In fact you can if nec. still buy just a replacement display unit for the MK1 which will work with your existing masthead unit and cabling. The V2 is now digital and uses a different mast head unit and cable.

Thanks.

The backlight works and increases and decreases, but that is not the problem.

The digits and arrows etc are a dim grey instead of a darker grey (compared to the depth and log sitting next to it).

Didn't think of getting in touch with NASA. If it is the lcd screen and a new lcd screen is not silly money then I'll gie it a go, thanks.

Often the connection from circuit board to display is by simple rubber strip with carbon layer, this can can loose clean contact, if removed and pencil lead rubbed on will often fix, not sure how NASA connect internally
