I think automotive brake cleaner aeroslols are the same stuff.
Same stuff as isopropyl alcohol, or something else? Either way, that would not be a wise assumption as brake cleaners come in a variety of forms, usually with a mix of ingredients. Some include IPA (not the beer), which is also sometimes recommended by vehicle manufacturers in its neat form as a disc rotor cleaner. Others are based on tetrachloroethylene (dry cleaning fluid), acetone, heptane, n-hexane and others. The first two each have a very distinctive odor; the latter two smell 'petrolly'. If it's marked as 'non-flammable', odds are it's based on tetrachloroethylene. (Which means you won't burn from repeated exposure, but you might get cancer...)
Acetone is also sometimes the main component of carb cleaners, which might be convenient for many frustrated outboardistas on here.
