cleaning the bog is the skipper's job

I have discussed this matter with the Ships Purser and she has informed me that provided she is not required to...

Swab the decks
Scrub the mud off the anchor
Stow the sails
Row the tender
Antifoul the hull
Or remain on deck when it's raining

I will not be required to clean the heads

Unless I make a mess

Having refitted the heads compartment so that it is fresh and sweet-smelling, I want to keep it that way. That means thorough cleaning at the end of each trip, and I don't trust anyone else to do it properly.

It was skipper's job when I sailed with the Army, as well.

Ok, now I'm with Seajet - what on earth are you doing in there? :)

(I do rely on my crew to be basically housetrained and not leave a mess, which is generally the case, so it just needs a deep clean at the end of the week. Bear in mind my trips are a bit shorter than some of yours!)

I have always used a simple policy: the best bunk goes to whoever promises to unblock the toilet if necessary. I've never yet been uncomfortable, and I have only once had to deal with a blocked bog full of diarrhoea. Which was really quite enough, thank you.

Yep, hands up, (or is it hands in), I always clean the bog too.

However anyone who comes sailing with me knows under pain of death that if they block it, they unblock it.

never really thought of it but Dylan's pallor does make him look a little like a bog cleaner . Could be a nice little earner for him. See up a little stand on the exit to every marina he stops at. KTLBC service (alt) The Şhit Squad no job unfinished !

Same here but once a week when we are away, best done with a hose through the window (always put our own spray head on the end as I know people fill their water tanks with them !).
