Can anyone advise on the best and most effective way to clean a blue sprayhood.

Removal of the winter green mould is possible using washing up liquid and a scrubbing brush followed by plenty of water, although I doubt the scrubbing brush is good for the stitching.

The main problem is ingrained dirt which I am told is the residue of sand blown from the Sahara last autumn. It appears as streaks in the material and is not affected at all by the scrubbing and washing.

A jet wash would probably do the trick but there would probably not be much sprayhood left afterwards.

Suggestions please.

Soap and water, with plenty of elbo grease although I doubt if this would make much impression. Household cleaning agents can discolour the fabric. I found the best solution was to remove the cover over the winter period, although this advise will not help you now. A chap down at our marina was using a power washer doing what you suggeted, it did not appear to damage the fabric, maybe give it a go.....slowly at first.

Can't help with the sand but a large bottle of cheap vinegar and a soft brush gets that green mould/algae stuff off
