What is the recommended method of cleaning the green mould from sprayhoods? Power wash?, soap and water and a scrubbing brush? Any other recommendations?

There is also some mildew stains insode the hood, andy suggestions for cleaning mildew marks?

Also what is good for rewaterproofing the material after cleaning? I've heard it suggested that Thompsons water shield as used on brickwork is good.

I used the Polycell 3 in 1 spray bottle mould killer as recommended by someone on this forum on mould on my sprayhood & it worked a treat. It killed it off in about2/3 weeks.Cheap as chips as well from B&Q.Get 10% off with my Diamond card on wednesdays (over 60's only)

I used a powerwasher which a local hoodmaker said was OK but I didn't use it really close up. I used a Homebase 5% W/V 'Weathercote' anti fungal and algicide sold for treating surfaces to be painted, diluted about 5:1 in an old spray bottle, brushed it in with a soft scrubbing brush in really bad areas like the leather anti-chafe patches and velco tabs. I put the gunge on for about an hour then powerwashed it off, 24hrs later I re-proofed it with Granger's waterproofing spray for tents. So far, after one month, so good, the hood is really clean but it didn't remove some spots of mildew on the underside and although I believe it did kill it off the stain remains. I used the same Weathercote on the cockpit teak back in July and it is still a green free zone.

I like the idea of 1~2 hours then wash off with power washer although the brintons product seems good as well. Basically the recommendations so far are to use a fungicide or algicide to kill the mould rather than just soap and water. Thanks for all the input.

At the beginning of the year, I took my sprayhood off and cleaned it in the back garden with a scrubbing brush and StarBrite canvas cleaner. All the green algae came off and it has remained clean all summer. Having the sprayhood off the boat made the job a lot more straightforward.
