what have you found to be proven products for cleaning
(a) stainless steel grabrails, stanchions etc.
(b) old fenders?

All suggestions welcome.

Autosol used to be the thing for polishing the chrome on the car when cars had chrome. Should do well on stainless. I must get some!

I was given a free sample of fender restorer at the boat show a couple of years ago. It obviously contains (or is) acetate as the surface goes slimy whilst using it. Yuk.

We clean all stainless steel tubing, i.e pushpit, pulpit, stanchions, bimini frame, with Creme Cleaner. Far better than specialist stainless cleaners and a fraction of the price. Black streak remover is fairly good on fenders.

Got oodles of stainless on my boat so I've tried a few things over the years. Flitz is good, very similar to Autosol. Unless it's badly rusted in which case I use an acid based cleaner - can't remember the name but I've still got a tub somewhere if you want to know - that came from a welding supplies place.

I then put on a thin film of microcrystalline wax on the few areas (which must be A2 I guess) that tended to rust - this has worked a treat.

For the fenders, the 'RIB and Fender cleaner' available from swindleries is very good. Or Fairy Power spray for heavily gunked up ones. I then used the polymarine vinyl polish in the hope that it helps to keep them clean or makes them easier to clean next time - time will tell.

Lemon Jif worked well on the hull of my boat . I'm sure i did the fenders aswell but it was a while ago and still looks clean without any polish after .
