Cleaning off permanent marker

I used a permanent marker on my Avon a while ago and tested it with some cleaners. Meths had no effect at all but to my surprise and mortification it came right off with white spirit.

It might surprise you - Try a pencil eraser.. one of those white ones in the blue/white card outer made by Staedtler.

A friend's three year old was once colouring on the chart table, literally - the permanent ink was either going straight through the paper or she was missing the paper entirely. We did not realise until she had finished the picture and held it up to show us.

Various thinners were tried on rags.. then nearly gave up.. until an internet search suggested the simple eraser.

I have since used one on various plastics to remove permanent pen and it definitely works.

Let us know what works best - although as VicS mentioned - it might have leached into the plastic already.

Moving away from sovents.

I bought a bottle of Zout ink and stain remover from a US toner/ink manufactor. It removes inkjet printer ink from everything, but the fingers. I have just tried it on a CD and it has removed permanent ink. It also worked quite well on a cellulose based marker.

Zout appears to be manufactured for the domestic market and can be used in washing machines. I assume that there is a simulare product available in the UK, as the supplier no longer stocks this product.
