Cleaning exhaust fumes from hull

The large dark stain is oil/soot from the exhaust, any strong household detergent should clean this. The small brown stain just below the exhaust is a rust stain from the "stainless" steel exhaust outlet - you need oxalic acid (cheap) or a more expensive yachty product containing it for this, best used warm or in warm weather. Doesn't work well or fast if very cold.

Fair point about the rust stain - I was referring to the OP's specific 'exhaust fumes'.

I find that Easyclean works well. Spray on, leave for ten minutes, wipe off. repeat for the worst staining.

I'm pretty sure it's just a dilute common acid - the smell is very familiar from school chemistry lessons.

i agree this is great. It doesnt sting on the hands so I dont know what it is. Amazing on waterline stains.

Also good for greasy thing including engines, bilges and exhaust stains is the no nonsense all purpose degreaser from screwfix.

OK, so earlier on I said we used Fenwicks Caravan Cleaner to clean off boats, motor-homes & caravans... That works great, but sometimes you need that extra bit of oomph... well we would then get a clean rag, cloth, paper roll, and spray onto the cloth/rag/paper brake cleaner and then rub off the stain. Any brand would do. The brake cleaner will just evaporate leaving no residue, just buff the stained area clean again. Not PC but its what we used in the trade. The trick is to spray the brake cleaner onto the rag NOT the stain, this doesn't then damage the finished surface. Gel-coat is incredibly hard and robust, a bit of brake cleaner didn't have any effect. We used it on every type of GRP surface, sprayed aluminium, plastic...

HOWEVER, if in doubt try it in a small inconspicuous area first, which is what we did first with all surfaces, best to be safe than sorry... :)

Is there an easy way (some kind of product probably) to clean exhaust fumes from the hull (not much luckily)? I don't mind if I need to wax it afterwards, because I am planning to anyway.
Thanks

Yes I use 'Silky' available from most good caravan shops, does not harm GRP. wet hull first, rub with silky then just wash off.AND its cheap £4.50 a tin!

Also reported to be good... Aldi Caravan cleaner.

Last on sale in March I believe but bound to be available again in the run up to the caravanning season.
