Cleaning Deck GRP \"grip\"

Anyone know the best way to clean the "grippy" area's on fibre glass, tried deck wash, jet washing, black streak remover, vim, bleach, nothing working, any idea's chaps?

Re: Cleaning Deck GRP \"grip\"

you need a soft fine brush and a diluted solution of poster hlb's so-called "boat remover", not actually boat remover but some sort of truckwash . Anyway, it gets the boat v clean and gteed for sparkling grippy-patern grp (or lino come to that) . Contact poster "hlb" to buy some qwite cheap really.

Re: Cleaning Deck GRP \"grip\"

Thanks for that, I have the same problem, comes up ok and back in no time. Looks like hlb's gonna be busy.

Re: Cleaning Deck GRP \"grip\"

Cutting compound squirted over decks then shower with water and use a stiff brush to clean it all down with.

Works a treat.

Re: Cleaning Deck GRP \"grip\"

Formula 1 spray and a stiff brush works well, some wash and wax afterwards keeps them clean for a tiny bit longer

Our flybridge is definitely less "non-slip" after attacking it with cutting compound.

Re: Cleaning Deck GRP \"grip\"

Yep.

Also i am afraid to say that neither Moose's nor depsols boat are as sparkly new-clean as they would have been with boat remover: using thick gloop of any description cannot remove all the grime from the patterned grp can it? No. Cos some of the grime will be even teenier particles that the cutting compound I bet, deep in tiniest recesses of the pattern, and only to be hoiked out by boat remover.

Re: Cleaning Deck GRP \"grip\"

We always used Starbrite Non Slip Deck Cleaner which worked but was expensive. Last year after a neighbouring boat in the yard was shotblasted we had ingrained old antifoul dust that wouldn't move with a powerwasher or the Starbrite but a friend suggested trying CIF Oxygel from the supermarket and it worked a treat plus it is cheap just £1.30 'ish for a spray bottle or £4 'ish for a big container at Makro. It is a bleach I think so keep it away from fabrics, hoods and the like, wet the deck with water, spray on the CIF, leave 10 minutes and wash/scrub/powerwash it off it sort of foams and lifts the muck out of the deck. Worth a try for £1.30 anyway.

You surprise me. Even thought Mucky Farters International Boat Removing Elixior is indead a wonderous product and exellent on smooth surfaces. I always found powders better on none slip. Less using a power washer. Mind, I'm probably even tighter than you!! What sort of strength have you apllied it at to get that wondourous result.. Have you measured the boat lately?? Would have thort you'd be down to about twenty five foot with the amount you've sloshed over it. Must be 40 gallons by now?

Re: Cleaning Deck GRP \"grip\"

You use about 10 water to one BR and need a soft fine brush but with plenty of bristles (like the yellow headed one in the Surehold range) and agitate it around and about in a jiggly sort of way.

In drunken condition i have found myself sorting out grp for mjf and even jimi. You must owe me loads of commission by now, really. Either that or the tightwads are just waiting for me to come round again...

AR,well you see. You cant buy MFIBRI anywhere. It's not sold in Tesco's. They would not dare. It's a bit industrial. If your against smoking in pubs, its not for you. It's not fussy, if it dont remove the boat, it removes you first.

I'm wondeing about my marketing Campaign. Am I frightening folks off!!

Re: Cleaning Deck GRP \"grip\"

Bloody hell. Thats strong. I use a gulp in a bucket. But then keep a spray bottle handy and if needed, just give the offending bits a helping hand.

Afraid most are frightened off by Boat Remover. Hence few customers. Only fairly hardened types. MInd most would be whinging back when hands fell off!! So quite good really.

Will thankfully give commision when, boat/ hand removing option is addressed. Maybe I should dilute it a bit before lettibng it loose on the general public. But seems a shame.
