Hi
I have an old Volvo Penta MD6A Diesel engine with an air filter with metal mesh inside. The air filter seems to be quite dirty and oil residue is dripping out of it. The air filter is in a metal housing which can not be opened. What is the best way to clean such an air filter? And what agent can be used to clean out the oil?

Regards Lasse

RTM. Doesn't it say to clean with white spirit or fuel oil ?

Paraffin, as pvb suggests, will also be suitable.
Let whatever you use drain thoroughly before refitting.

Manual recommends wash in diesel. I steep in paraffin overnight, rinse, dry. Spray light oil in mesh. Hose connects to rocker box.

Its the same on my VP22 it is a very basic system. Just clean it with white spirits or even petrol make sure you swill it about then let it dry clean with diesel and your good to go
