Cleaning a GRP Hull

I use supermarket cream cleaner on a wet rag to clean and then one coat of (liquid) Starbrite with Teflon polish, applied and polished off by hand.

Photo below was taken a couple of weeks ago after just a quick clean and hose down before this years polish applied, last polished 12 months ago.

Yeah we have a blue stripe also and that needs polishing. Not sure how much you boat specific oxalic cost but this is what I use and works fine. Not thickened though.

That's all very well but you have no idea as to how lazy I am. If I come across something in the chandlers' that will do the job I will buy it. I will agree that Y10 is extravagant but I find the the Yachticon 'Anti-Gilb' goes quite a long way. It is a sort of gloopy liquid that I apply with a floor-sponge on a pole that I purloin from the house, and wash down later of course.

Re: Cleaning a GRP Hullm

It would be useful if you could determine whether the boat has been painted with classic Awlgrip or with Awlcraft 2000. If you then get in touch with Awlgrip, you should find that they will be helpful in suggesting which products you can safely use on it.

Some years ago, I had the faded blue stripes on my old HR resprayed with Awlcraft 2000. There were some minor quality issues and the local Awlgrip technical rep actually came along and inspected the boat with me and suggested remedial action.

It's Awlgrip. Their website has a "contact us" section which offers me the choice of a contractor to apply their product or the email address of their sales rep.

To say that I am under whelmed by this is putting it mildly. I have therefore found their Facebook page and asked them a question that way.

I agree that their website isn't clear. The "Contact us" section actually gives you the choice of a distributor or a sales rep, not a contractor. If you look at the distributor link you'll find Marineware (the UK distributor) whose website is at http://www.marineware.com/

I approached Marineware when I had Awlgrip issues, and it was their technical rep who inspected my boat. Apologies for previously suggesting it was an Awlgrip rep.

for those on budget
Oxilic Acid.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/500g-Oxa...h=item20b219307d:g:OeYAAOSwrklVACWE:rk:1:pf:0
Silky.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silky-Cr...h=item28560ae4ea:g:33QAAOSwT~ZavKsm:rk:1:pf:0
Car Wash/ Polish.

Dilute Oxilic acid and apply to any staining including rust marks around any stainless fittings.
Leave until Gelcoat sparkly while and rinse off.
Apply Silky and leave to DRY.
Mix up bucket of car/wash/wax and use soft broom to dissolve/rinse off Silky residue.
Thats it.
Total cost around £17.00 and enough to do it all again several times.
Or buy similar stuff with Starbright on the bottle and pay somewhat more.
