Cleaning a bikini cover

Just a thought.... Probably wise to refit the canopy while it's still wet/damp. otherwise it can shrink and be a real bugga to refit.

Once it's fully dry then remove to reproof

Now he tells me! The boat is in Brittany and the sprayhood is in my back garden drying after just being anointed with Fabsil.

Thanks but I should have made it clear that my sprayhood doesn't have mould; it's just grubby from airborne dirt. In which case, would washing-up do?

I wouldn't use washing up liquid for anything other than washing up.

Thanks for the advice and the jokes!

That Doff stuff sounds good, I hope Aldi in Santanyi sell it. For the chemical nerds (like me) the active ingredient is N-Alkyl-N-benzyl-N,N-dimethylammonium chloride. A quaternary ammonium compound. Essentially it kills algae and inhibits regrowth. Wet and forget has the same active ingredient but probably at a different concentration.

Thanks again for the advice to use a patio cleaner on the bimini. The boat is in Mallorca so I got some patio cleaner from Comercial Palmer and a trigger water sprayer from the chinese shop, mixed at about 10:1 and sprayed the bimini.

It took a while to cover the whole area but within a couple of days it had killed off all the algae.

Before and after photos below.

I use a garden sprayer.
At the weekend as the weather was so good I rolled up or removed most of the canvas . Found a couple of small areas the spray must have missed last Autumn. Sipped a G&T while watching my pontoon neighbour scrubbing his canvas. I will bring some extra mixture to the boat some time .

I have used the stronger version MMC pro for years, as it keeps the teak and canvas mould free when used twice yearly. Painted and sprayed on. The decks at the end of winter are still clean. Teak decks are not damaged and worn away by repeated scrubbing.
