My canvas bimini cover could do with a clean. Can I stick it in the marina's big old washing machine?

Or would you put it on the pontoon and use soap, water and a stiff brush?

Edit > Bloody auto correct . Bimini not bikini . My moobs are not that big!

I’ve found laying it on the pontoon, wet it, scrub with traffic film remover and power washing with a high pressure head works really well. Let it dry and treat with fabsil.

Probably not good for the material too often but as a once per year job it seems fine.

I use Patio Magic...excellent on my cockpit canopy....dilute 1 part to 4 water and brush it on with a paint brush, then just leave it to do its work, which will take a few weeks, then put on some Fabsil to re-waterproof it....job done!!

Similar for me except I spray on the Patio Magic.
also spray it on the side decks and around the anchor locker hatch, on ropes and on the teak.
Then do nothing .

I have just today bought some alternative but hopefully very similar product from aldi which was just in store today

Me too, although I use ‘wet and forget’. Pretty sure it’s the same stuff as patio magic - works in the same way and very effective.

You need to wait a month after application and have some rain to see the full effect.

Yes there are various products
With little effort from me the boat keeps elf clean over winter .

+1 for Patio Magic. Brilliant stuff.
Do you re seal the canvas with Fabsil or similar?

I haven't been doing that but was wondering about it recently.

I treated the canvas with Fabsil Gold some time ago - probably in 2017.
Water does not bead on the surface of the canvas but nor does the canvas let water through.

I wouldn't want to use the washing machine after that had been in it (on the assumption is was even still workng).

I put spray dodgers in the washing machine, having done the resit of the canvass covers in the bath - they shrank! (not much but sufficient that some of the snap fastener fittings would no longer meet up with their twins on the hull.

However another vote for patio magic and Fabsil Gold.

The Doff patio cleaner from Aldi is the same as Patio Magic

ITYWF that Wet and Forget is more concentrated but also more expensive

Homebase sell a similar product but it is more dilute. Ready to use in fact. It looks cheaper but works out more expensive
