Having tired everything to get my fenders clean including expensive but ineffective specialist cleaner, today I have cracked it. The answer is T.Cut from the motorists discount centre it does the job easily and quickly with great results.

I did try it but it didn't work for me. What has worked though is Tubigrip from the pharmacy - as a sock - effective and cheap plus you can dye it if need be!

Isn't there a danger of the grit in the T-cut getting embedded in the soft fender and turning the fender into a gelcoat grinder?

Parsifal,

absolutely. In the 1980's the suggestion from some sailing magazines was to pour fairy liquid onto any squeaking fender; this soon dried and turned into grinding paste, transferring via the fenders any coloured gelcoat onto a neighbouring white boats' topsides !

I thought we had just hit the lazy way of polishing the topsides!

I'd avoid any form of fender sock like the plague. Dried salt, sand, grit, all potential inhabitants of your fender socks can play havoc with gel-coat.

Tip. After cleaning the fenders polish with an all purpose furniture polish. It stops the dirt impregnating where there are scratches & indentations. Our fenders have been in use for 16years!
