Claymore\'s Confession - Claymore\'s Confusion

When Claymore was at Kilmelford over the winter months much was done in terms of maintenance and the fiting of new gear each year. This was quite an achievement bearing in mind the 5 hours that separated us.
Now that Claymore is 7 minutes from home - nothing has been done all winter in terms of maintenance.
Is this common?

Tut-tut!!!

The guilt will make you work harder on her when you get down there!

I never went anywhere near my boats for five weeks!!!!!! It hurt, alot! But I made up for it!

3 possible answers:

1. Not common at all in fact very rare. AKAIK there is only one Claymore called Claymore based in Kimelford which moved to Lancashire for the winter.

2. Common as muck. Appalling behaviour, shouldnt be allowed by any member of a Yacht Club

3. Reasonably common - so easy to put things off on the basis that one could easily pop down to the boat for 'an hour or two next weekend', so I won't bother now. Next thing all the weekends have passed and its Easter again.

Re: Claymore\'s Confession - Claymore\'s Confusion

Well probably to do with the romance of a long weekend in Argyll, the anticipation, the call of the heather...
Er wasn't it the boatyard did all the work in Kilmelford....?

Re: Claymore\'s Confession - Claymore\'s Confusion

Its related to the ditance travelled. If you make the effort you will have planned the trip and booked the diary.
When it is ad hoc 5 minutes away, there will always be the old - well I'll get round to it tomorrow, next weekend etc.

Also, you dont know what the weather is doing 5 hours away, so it wont put you off going, just make the best of it wen you get there.

I resist having my boat on my side of the river, thats no fun, so its a 45 minute drive away, and gets the complete days booking.

Re: Claymore\'s Confession - Claymore\'s Confusion

Er...well, yes the boatyard did do some of the work but I still had to organise it (and pay for it)
Those tended to be the tekkie kind of jobs involving wires or tools - there are plenty of other jobs to be done of course and those were very much within my domain.

Re: Claymore\'s Confession - Claymore\'s Confusion

How remiss of me and of course it's still only the beginning of February. I should have mentioned that Claymore is so well fettled that you need only glance in its direction before April for it to be 'ship-shape.'
Am I still invited for the cruise north?

Re: Claymore\'s Confession - Claymore\'s Confusion

What are you wingeing about?

I took 6 months to replace 5 planks and in the subsequent 4 months have managed to replace the foredeck but still have no coachroof! I live and "work" on my boat so have no excuses apart from evil friends and neighbours who conspire to lead me astray.

Re: Claymore\'s Confession - Claymore\'s Confusion

I recognise the problem.
Sirenia is just outside the back door.
I have been fitting a FM radio/MP3 box since I got it in Mid December.
So far I have made 1 side of the housing.

Mind you SWMBO has found plenty of other things for me to do including taking 30ft out of the top of a 45ft fir tree she planted as a 2ft high tree 15 years ago /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Now I have got to have a hernia opp later this week so that it another week-end stuffed.
I had intended to go to a boat jumble.

Never mind still 9 weeks to Easter when I intend to paint her hull.
Must get my act together.

O I forgot I have to act as Clark of the Course on our Club Stages Rally at the beginning of March.
More time gone.

A doctor writes ...

there's not much out of the ordinary here. In past years, we're told, great thought has gone into this subject but, come the day the instances of various bits of kit sprouting bear wires and obstinately refusing to function as per the handbook are a common, but never dispiriting, sight. Clearly, some distraction is occurring which is deflecting you from concentrating fully on the tasks required. It is well known that weight loss, general bon hommie (jings, thon's rare fer this time orra morn) can occur if sufficient thought's given to the matter so i can only conclude that your official duties of wandering round the yard recounting yer cruising exploits, and renting a shotty on yer cherry picker at fifty notes a go, is distracting you.
