At the recent AGM of Blackpool and Fleetwood yacht Club - B&FYC.org.uk - the bold Captain Claymore was elected to position of Hon Cruising Secretary.

One thing I wish to do is generate some interaction with other clubs in the general area of western britain, if that makes sense.
Anyone out there fulfilling a similar role?

Jimi - its a serious post so buggeraff and leave this alone ma wee scaldie

Thanks Vyv.
I was thinking of a geographical area of say Aberystwyth across to Dublin and north to Skye as presenting reasonable distances for summer cruises in company with weekend in and around Morecambe bay.
Not trying to turn this into some kind of Sunsail venture but I suppose my vision is of a few cruising sailors taking drink as guests of others in their clubs.

Well on a slightly different tack - how about an exchange weekend with some of the East Coast brethren. We drive to you for a weekend, then you come to us on a different weekend. Or something on those lines. I am sure we could rustle up a bit of interest for that.

Congratulations and commiserations. Whatever you do or organise won't suit someone, and not many people say thank you if you do get something right. They also treat you like they own you as well. But the bright stars burn brightly, which makes it all worthwhile.

Claymore,

There has been quite a bit of interaction between the clubs around Morecambe Bay - for some reason the winter meeting of the MBSA didn't happen. This is the usual time to arrange the open events for the following year.

With our 50th aniversery coming up we're organising a couple of weekend open sailing events, with a bit of a 'do' afterwards, for June/July and would hope to see you and others from B&FYC join in - you will be made very welcome!

I do hope the spring meeting of the MBSA can be arranged so we can all confirm our arrangements for the year.

Funnily enough, I thought much the same thing when Claymore first posted this thread earlier today..... we'd definitely be up for it.... assuming we get our new boat in time.... be a lot of fun, and nice for all involved to sail in a different bit of water for a change....

Hi Steve
thanks for that.
B&F haven't done much really for a year or two - a couple of moorings laid at Piel and thats about it
I've designed a questionnaire which I'll mailshot to members - there are about 150 offshore boats registered - and I'm planning what I hope will be an achievable set of events - a couple of cruises in company over weekends and if people fancy a summer sail in Scotland then they could join us or meet us somewhere along the way.
Working at the College I'm quite fortunate in that I can get access to the ship simulator and the offshore survival tank so I've got some visits planned which will include a liferaft session.
The motor vehicle section have offered a diesel engine troubleshooting session which I think will be good (For me at least!!)

Not sure who B&F's MBSA rep is
The first actual event will be a quiz on 27th March

For anyone interested in cruising in the area please note the B&FYC host a forum on their site including the **new** cruising section. I may even have to join /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
