Issue 1 in the newsagents today apparently. Anyone got a copy and had a read yet? The inclusion of articles on dinghy cruising in France, East Coast Smacks and Barges, and Rowing boats/ expeditions is all positive in my view. Looking forward to it.

Got a copy in WH Smiths in Uxbridge, West London. Same time got this months Classic Boat, which I have to say was far more interesting to me. Have thought CB worthwhile reading recently, particularly the Dick Durham article on his MG designed Wendy May, and the current issue with Nightfall which MG owned after Storm.

I was having a meal on my own in the lightship last week and I was offered a copy to read by one of the staff. Nice touch by the Resturant and I passed a pleasant hour casually reading while having dinner.

It's easy to pick fault with something and the reliance on GRJ was a little cleb heavy for my taste but hey why not. Overall pretty good and it's great to see a new magazine in the classics space.

Sadly I won't be buying Classic Sailor as it does not appear to be available in Edinburgh! Hope the exclusively through WHSmth thing is lost PDQ

Hmm. I'm not sure I'd bet quite that much on a start-up magazine making it to number three. let alone a full year.

Well that is partly my feeling too, and combined with that I am not going to subscribe to something I have not seen yet and anyway call me old fashioned (it should not be an insult on a classic boat forum) but I like to purchase my reading material in a newsagent, with whom I will exchange a few pleasant words, before reading the mag on public transport and smuggling into my house in such a way that my wife might not be immediately alerted to the fact that I have wasted more money on glossy boat porn.

The problem with newsagents is that they either have to buy their stock, which means they do not speculate, or the publisher has to put in stock on sale or return, which means a huge investment particularly for a startup. A niche publication such as this cannot afford to use newsagents unless they can get an exclusive deal with a biggy outlet like Smiths - as this seems to have done. It is inevitable that niche publications will distribute mainly through subscription or on line.

My local newsagent carries Watercraft and Classic Boat. The independent newsagent near my work carries these two and Woodenboat, US mag for those who do not know it. Hopefully Classic Sailor can be rolled out to more newsagents as time goes on.

Why not ask your local newsagent to order a copy for you. suspect they only have the others because they have a predictable demand. Not the kind of publications you they would stock on spec. Doubt the new publishers have targeted independent newsagents, so they may not even know about it.

I bought Classic Sailor in Inverness yesterday at WHSmith. 1st glance is that it's very good entertainment, and completely 'unstuffy'; long may that last. The article 'Over the Yardarm' was very accurte and (sadly) true to me.

Manged to get myself a copy by cycling 45 miles inland to Galasheils..... not a hot bed of classic boats, which is good from my point of view. Looks pretty good. I like the fact that there are motor boat and rowing sections, and not everything is from the Med or Caribbean.
