classic boat

Hi!
There are no conditions for a boat to become a"classic". So long as you consider your boat to be a classic then it is!!
There are those who would dissagree with me and say that its to do with age construction etc but its up to the individual.
Cheers and fair winds to you all!

TERRY

i agree, a call mine a pile of sh*t (which it is!!) but others keep b**locking me and saying it's a classic!

the important part is that you can look at it and feel that it's your boat and are proud to spend more time looking after her than sailing!

I agree with 'clyst' and 'aztec'. I have a 1964 Westerly 22, sail number 57, she has the most wood Ive seen on a GRP boat; all the spars (gunter rig); all the interior, except the bunk bases; four rubbing strakes and its all varnished. So whether the boats wood, steel, grp or that concrete stuff, the status 'classic' is decided by her owner not by regulation ( there's radical for you ! )

Good sailing to everyone.

Ps. I am at present looking for a nice old wooden cutter, so that shoots my arguement in the foot doesnt it !!

hi, just to put the cat amongst the pidgeon so to speak... a fer years ago i was involved in the retoration business, classic cars and crap like that. we used to do the old ac greyhounds, and lagonda 2.6 dhc's, armstrongs etc.

while attending classic rallies, many pretty cars were in evidence, as were maxi's, 1100's, toledo's!!!, allegro's(beige of course... why were they all beige?) and of course mini's... the point is, if these pieces of sh*t can be classics, i don't see why any boat won't be ...one day.

You mean a "Centaur" one day will become a Classic------------------Give me an ALLEGRO anyday!!
Bet there will be those who disagree!!

Fair winds to you all (including Centaurs)

I have an olive green/avacardo Shetland BlackHawk "Sports" (sic) boat. Not sure whether classic covers it as she has no mast or sail and is plastic (aww.... Bless...). She does have wooden doors and hatch though!
