Clamcleat CL212 Starboard leechline cleat. Which side of sail?

I would have thought from the name that it should be fitted on the starboard side of the mainsail.

Yet the Clamcleat website shows it fitted on the port side of the mainsail.

Sailrite videos also show it positioned on the port side.

It doesn't make sense.

Can someone explain?

Clamcleat® CL212 Leech Line Cleat (Starboard)
No Can't explain. Fit it the way it works.

Annoyingly, I have already installed the leech line on the starboard side, and basted and stitched down 32 feet of the leech tape on the reasonable assumption that cleats described as 'starboard' would be fitted on the starboard side.

Now, where did I put my seam ripper?

And where's the gnashing teeth emoji when you need it?

looking at the pics and related products in your link the port cleat goes on stbd side so send the one you have back and exchange it.
Alternatively buy a port one and fit them both using one as the backing plate for the other.
I have four! One for the clew and one for each reef.

I didn't buy them, I took them off an old sail.
