Circular saw...is something wrong with this photo?

I thought that circular-saw blades rotate with the front edge biting downwards, into the wood. Has this blade been put on backwards? Looks odd to me.

Here's the picture's location on eBay. If the label on the saw didn't have lettering, I might have assumed the photo was back-to-front: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bosch-GKS...Home_Garden_PowerTools_SM&hash=item2ed83790bd

The reason it looks weird is that the handle and motor are on the wrong side of the blade. Either it's a left-handed saw (which I guess might exist for some special purposes, but you'd think it would be mentioned in the description) or the image has been flipped and the writing photoshopped. (The text "Gear head can be rotated in 90 degree steps. Handle can be used on right or left" is I think a red herring, rogue copy and paste from an angle-grinder or multi-tool).

Pete is just about right.

It looks ass about face because the blade is on the opposite site to most .... but not all..
As he says almost as though it was intended to be a left handed one.

Looking through catalogues I have found some others the same... interestingly, like this one, all cordless ones .

I am sure its not flipped and Photoshopped.

Don't know what to make of the statement that the handle can be used on right or left. Perhaps thats it . This is shown with the handle on the right... normally they have the handle on the left......... not sure what then would happen about the direction of rotation ??

I have an old but little used B&D one
They scare the carp out of me

Your replies are appreciated, gentlemen. More than likely I just didn't pay close attention to my own circular saw, during the several years I owned one!

I'm on the point of buying an Argos cheapie, for various casual winter projects. The reviews seem generally positive, considering its cost. Any warnings/recommendations?

Its pretty much a dead ringer for my skil saw.
just check that the guard actually touches the sole plate ( unlike my skil saw ) my saw chewed my pinkey l/h middle, i was holding the saw in r/h & went to hold the knob without looking, pinkey went in the gap between the guard & sole plate, a slot down the length of the nail :o

Can't see how it's back to front. I hold the handle and operating button in my right hand the top grip with my left.

A "normal" one from the toolstation catalogue. you'd hold this one as you describe. If you hold the one in the Op like that your left arm will cross over the top of it!

If the saw blade rotated so that the cutting teeth went down into the wood, there is the possibility that the saw could "run away" from you.

Without a guard behind the blade, the saw shown could actually run back at you, which is probably more frightening. It happened to a friend of mine and went between his thumb and the rest of his hand, with predictable results.

I have three different sized ajustable trend fences, using a template I set the fence then cut, you dont have to buy trend fences there are cheap ones available it is all about saftey and getting a decent straight cut if I cant use the saw bench and have to use a hand power saw
The fence enables me to concentrate on controling the saw not following a line

Working in Algeria, slip form concrete silos, had local carpenters, they were issued with Skilsaws, they lasted a day before they were confiscated! They kept chopping their fingers off!
