Probably not as boring as the road from Fareham to Gosport I suspect but at least no chance of running aground when leaving Gosport afloat. ?
You're still constrained by the tide, but it's the ebb and flow of the traffic that gets you. Not as embarrassing as ending up on the putty when you get it wrong, though.

In Gosport, think about a Gosport Boat Yard mooring. It doesn't work 24/7, but they do have an effective water taxi service. Join Hardway SC and you've got a good pontoon that's accessible most of the tide.

Do Southsea Marina allow visitors to overnight on the waiting pontoon? (Assuming the weather is right and you actually want to?) It would be very handy to me to leave long before the cill drops.
Yes they do: we have done this ourselves when we missed the tide for our mooring further up the harbour. Be warned that if you spend the night on board the waiting pontoon they will charge you the same rate as if you were inside the marina.

Do you want to wait? Try the visitor moorings in the entrance near ECA. Just dropping off or collecting? Use the ferry pontoon but I didn’t mention it…

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to know. Basically I'm at the top of Chi Harbour with a small boat and arriving and leaving near low tide has a lot of advantages for me. Or at least having that option.

I often take my boat out of the marina at night, overnight on the holding pontoon then leave at a civilised hour in the morning. This is my 30th year in Southsea Marina and I love it. Marina staff will move your boat out or put it away if you plan to go out or return when the cill is closed. It's very close to the sea, and there's no queuing for a lock at busy times. Compare that to Port Solent or Chichester! I know they have vacancies at the moment.
