\"Cigar Lighter Socket\"

I'm looking for a panel mount electrical socket - what I'd call a car cigar lighter socket, to run various bits and pieces, phone charger etc on Treble C

I expect to get one at RS but can't find them on the website - any ideas exactly what they are called as it's driving me nuts searching through dozens of web pages?

Thanks in advance

Julian

Beware...there is more than one sort. Also, never buy a cheap one. Check max current and check your cable size and fusing accordingly.

Re: \"Cigar Lighter Socket\"

I bought a multiple one from Halfords, which promptly melted the first time I used it. The replacement I put in the car before driving off - that melted as well! DON'T GET A CHEAP ONE!

Also have a look at the neg terminal - if it doesn't wrap around the whole of the barrel you may find a problem getting a consistent connection

Another vote from me, just installed three of them, not used them yet but they seem well made. You can buy them in a pack that comes with the "plug", there's a fuse inside the plug but you can install an inline fuse straight after the fuse if you don't have them on a fused switch.

Re: \"Cigar Lighter Socket\"

A friend of mine has just bought a Malo 36 and he was asking me about a 12v "small" socket that he couldn't use his standard 12v Laptop charger cigar plug in.
I sourced what I thought would do from CPC Ltd and of course I can't find it on line to give you the link.
But it was the correct one to fit the far superior Malo supplied socket. A good secure fit.
Having said all that the ebay one from Maxi77 looks good and if it locks to the correct plug go for it, it would be worth the pennies to experiment and get a better end solution.

I followed that link because I need to replace the socket of my tillerpilot. I have just received the combined socket / plug set and it seems to be excellent quality. Very fast delivery from this company (obviously no connection with them; I live in Malta). Thanks.
