Chute snuffers

Out of interest, is that because you wouldn't be confident in being able to handle it, or because you view it as just too much hassle to fly without?

Because although I can get it down without the snuffer it is a real PITA to do single handed as I had a fixed dodger so it had to go down the forehatch and be repacked there.

With the snuffer I could get it down in less than a couple of minutes and felt much more in control.

We won't talk about the time I was sailing along with another boat and held on to it longer than I normally would had the snap shackle at the mast head fail and had to recover it from the water.

Cruising chute snuffers - what next!!

Single handed, I fly a sub-100m2 spinnaker without one.

The genniker (larger than a cruising chute) and set on a sprit, certainly doesn't need one.

Having tried a snuffer, they're more trouble and confusion-causers than they're worth.

But that's on a 3/4 rig where you can always depower the foresail using the main to blanket it.

IMHO there may be a case with a really large spinnaker on a masthead-rig, for using a snuffer.

Thank you, my feelings exactly...
