Churchill's ministry of ungentlemanly warfare

Noticed the Sir Richard Montgomery is back in the news (talking of unexploded ordnance) breaking up and risk of masts falling and causing something. We sailed past it a few times in the distant past.

Started to watch it on prime the other night. To early to say whether it will be any good.
Its cartoonish (in a sort of Tarrantino-esque violence kind of way) and so OTT it can't be taken seriously, so avoid if you prefer even a dash of accuracy. I don't even think the little thumbnails at the end accurately describe what the real people went on to do, and doesn't even mention that 3 were killed in subsequent missions. I think HMS Belfast stands in for HMS Violet in a couple of scenes, which will probably go unnoticed by most viewers, but just looked daft to me.

Worst Churchill ever.....

It's total Guy Ritchie..... no resemblance to reality and delightfully bonkers.

Saw the film on prime a while back. An insult to the book imho having read the book first.
I would think it is tricky to put such a book on film, unless is is a very long one. Lots of fascinating bits of info, that would have to be worked into scenes.

By co-incidence, I read the book of 'The Deer Hunter', a few days after seeing the film. It was exactly the same, though it might have been written with a film in mind.

Mrs DW had several friends who served in Vietnam. At the time of the film she was quite shaken by it.

by Giles Milton.
Mainly factual and set during WWII. Goes into the history and development of the special 'weapons' made for the SOE plus some bits about SOE training in Scotland, etc. I found it very good reading with some humour and it by chance linked up with other books I have read, such as Maquis by George Millar.
Just started reading this. A Google search will provide viewers with a sample to read. I am finding it to be an excellent read about clever Brits doing clever things.
