Well, not much wake, really.
8 knots, warm weather, sea calm enough to not even turn the stabs on...
Sorry Santa if you didn't find me at home, but I'd rather have a day like this - any time! :rolleyes:

Looks like you were back on the “old tub”! It’s the caves, I tell you......

l think that the first pic is the lighthouse on the west of San Pietro - cant remember it name but maybe if I dig out some more pics, I could probably find its name.

Ahh yes, isn’t the first spot close to the shallow reef (pretty much the only one you had to be careful with, iirc :)).

The second one is easy and a great excuse to link this:

@Hurric: yep, the spot in the background of your third pic is indeed the same as in my first one - just from opposite views.
In my pic of today, we were cruising CCW around the island, and my pic shows the S side of the lighthouse.
In your pic, we were cruising CW, and the pic shows the N side of the lighthouse peninsula.
Incidentally, the bay in your pic, right under the slope, is a very nice and secluded anchorage which IIRC you didn't try, just in case you would need an excuse to come back!
Only good with southern winds, but with a beautiful snorkeling (and also diving) area all around it.

Your sunset pic was instead taken (I think) in a bay a bit further South called "Caletta", between the Mezzaluna and the lighthouse. Does the following pic sound familiar...? :)

K, I believe it's actually another spot which you have in mind, in the southernmost point of the island, near some rocks called "le Colonne" (the Columns).
In fact, in that area there is indeed a dangerous rock, barely under the surface, which in dead calm sea you might not see till you are very close to it.
There are some shallow spots also in the area on the right side of my first pic above, but they are more visible, hence less dangerous.

For the records, the water in Mezzaluna caves today was amazingly flat and inviting - as opposed to when you made your nice video.
None of those onboard had the guts to put the wetsuit on and jump in for a swim, but I'm sure that you guys who are much tougher than ourselves would have enjoyed a bit of Xmas snorkeling there! :encouragement:

It was really great to have had that close introduction from your local knowledge at the beginning of the season.
Like Scubaman says we had to go quite a long way out to be clear of those rock on the south before turning into Mezzaluna.

Also, thanks for posting that pic of Caletta.
I think you said at the time that the pic was on the local beach bar's website - it shows our two boats at anchor - along wth the 2 yachties.

Interesting to see how good your memories are folks, even if not 100% correct.
In fact, Deleted User pic with our two boats indeed shows the bay on the N side of Capo Sandalo, where the lighthouse is, which is the same visible at some distance in the last pic of Hurricane post #4, and also in the first pic of my OP (though that shows the opposite (i.e. southern) side of the cape.

But that Cape is actually the westernmost point of the island, rather than on the northern coast, where you might remember Cala Vinagra instead, which was very nicely filmed by scubaman with his drone (first minute or so in the video below).

And nope Hurricane, your pic above actually doesn't show the very same spot. It's another bay called Cala Fico, but it's very close to Capo Sandalo anyway - about half a mile further N along the same stretch of coast.
A very forgivable mistake, since the landscape is equally rocky and pretty similar! :encouragement:

Mmm just checked Google Maps and I think we should go 50/50 'coz it seems to be the most northwesterly point of the island and I seem to remember that it gives good shelter from southerly winds;)
 
Fair enough.
The place is indeed great when the second prevailing wind (i.e.SE) blows, whilst it's very exposed to Mistral instead... :encouragement:

All I remember is that it was always bloody windy on that corner whichever way the wind was coming from;)

Just look at where our respective boats are anchored in your pic above...! :rolleyes: :D

Um yes well apart from me being a cautious anchorer, I believe that Ant had a big effing keel to hit the rocks first which may explain why you were further in;)
