Party revellers rescued from Essex ship
More than 100 people were trapped on a permanently-moored ship in Essex when the gangway moved, leaving it too dangerous to use.

The 112 people were eating Christmas dinner on the HMS Wilton, which serves as the Essex Yacht Club's clubhouse, when the incident happened.

Firefighters used a winch to secure the gangway and then helped walk each person across one at a time.

It took fire crews an hour to get everyone off the boat safely.

Martin Powell, from Essex Fire and Rescue Service, said: "The crews did a fantastic job.

"It was a unusual rescue requiring no small amount of innovation on their part to get everyone safely off.

"On top of this crews had to carry all of the equipment for half a mile down a snowy hill and along an icy path to get it where it was needed."

Sounds like a hoot. Wish I had been there.
