We had a christmas card that said "from your new neighbours, john". After a month of racking our brains, sort-of half-asking about newish neighbours here at work, at home in london, and in kent... it finally dawned on me last night that the new neighbour is in the marina, and it's jfm.

BUT he is blimmin 20 places further up the pontoon, and on the other side, whereas really a neighbour in my book should be bang next door or at least a bit closer than that. And anyway he hasn't moved a boat there yet so he won't be a real neighbour really until Aprilish, by which time i might have nipped off on a trip somewhere else.

Anyway, happy christmas jfm.

It was posted in Watford or summink which is how he threw me off the trail seeing as i am usually 20miles from watford and often a lot more. Anyweay, do i need to send it back? I mean, it's not like an invoice you know, i don't think i need to say "harumph! a blimm in christmas card - I'm not having this!" and then send it back with "rejected" stamp on the back

Maybe he has got a berth next door to you and that was his way of telling you.

Oops sorry, will imprint full name and address next time.

Look, when it's your street in London or kent, neighbour means right bang next door. But when it's 1000 miles away in France, 20 boats along the pontoon, same pontoon, means neighbour. And anyway I would not want to be bang next door, word is there's a localised barnacle problem :-) And also, we have moved in, the phantom has been on the Antibes berth for a few weeks.

What this shows is that blokes can't write christmas cards, so they write a few lines of bolx like "neighbour" and all goes wrong/confused from there.....

Whatever you problems might or might not be I really am a bit miffed that you are bothering us with xmas issues when its still over 11 months away.
Any normal person would have started off from a position of asking..'who do i know that is called John?' ...in fact if you'd asked me I would probably have said it was jfm without even thinking about it...../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
