In an effort to avoid spending Christmas at "her mothers" I've talked the wife into spending Christmas on the boat, we did the folly last Christmas but we'd like to try somewhere else this time.

Where else has a pontoon with power right outside of the pub ( the pub must be open! ) in on around the IOW or along the west coast ( would consider Weymouth )
and is any one else staying on their boat for Christmas ? ( or am I the only idiot? )

Very good idea not to spend the time at er mothers. Mind you, i have had a timely falling-out with parents every autumn for over 20 years, which is an easier option. Is Port Solent a possible? Otherwise Yarmouth would give nice options, esp at the George.

In larger petrol stations on motorways you will soon be abel to get tiny cristmas trees of the type liked by Real Truckers, with 12v lights and these go down an absolute bundle. Maybe you have some old knackered decorations, inlc praps a slightly knackered xmas tree from previous year and somehow these are even better.

I dont know about organising a cruise but if anyone is spending time afloat getting together with like minded peoplae wouldnt be such a bad thing, where were you thinking of going ?

Siberia would be warmer than the mother in laws, last year was the first time in 12 years we havent spent Christmas at the in laws and I really enjoyed it (so did the kids), the wife seemed ok about it as well.

We did buy one of those little fibre optic trees last year, still got it somewhere but the real winner was the 10 metre flashing rope light which I strung along the rails the kids thought it was great.

Probably confused the hell out anyone navigating up the Medina though !

Port Solents Ok but we spend our winter berthed there so its a simple case of been there seen that and got the T shirt, trouble with Yarmouth is not being able to get alongside.

Dinghy trips are best avoided with excess alcohol and young kids on board, any other ideas ?

We stayed on boat last Christmas had a great time.
This year it'll be even better. Wife and I on boat in Brighton, kids on QE2 somewhere on the other side of the Atlantic.

Chisp ;o))

What do you mean the sea gull in front's walking !!!

Well if I don't get the engine rebuild finished we'll be stuck in Chichester marina but I really hope to be done way before then.
Island Harbour marina could be good but obviously depends on tides etc (like most places on the south coast)
I guess we'd better start thinking how to decorate the old girl. (and the boat)
