Did anyone hear this idiots comments about Ellen this morning?
I missed them, but apparently they were along the lines of What's the big deal etc etc

I would be interested in his idea of a more worthy achievement

Yip, i heard the whole thing..
He was basically saying that it was no acheviement. 'Just like walking from John O'groats to Landsend, Whats the point???' he said.

I don't think he could grasp that it was actually a competition, And that sailing is a Sport.

I did think he was a Bit OTT...

Who cares really what they say on R1.
A station that was great years ago now just aimed at serving up crap for children.
Most normal people know its all crap and so dont even tune in.

Ellen's achievement is history in the making, one of the few things that makes you feel proud to be British these days.

That's as maybe, but the youth of today need all the encouragement they can get, and perhaps a role model such as Ellen might just drag one or two away from the TV, Playstation, street corners etc.
And this twat is not helping by saying these things.

He's a professional wind-up merchant. I don't suppose he actually has an opinion on the matter at all, but it's his job to say provocative things because it's edgy, urban and daring, like R1's music policy.

I don't subscribe to the notion that Radio 1 is a once great station that's been debased. It's a popular music station aimed at young people (well, that's how it was launched in the 60's). It lost its way for a while, in the Smashy and Nicey days of DLT & Simon Bates, but has now re-focussed. People who listened to it 20 years ago should now be listening to Radio 2 instead, unless they are sad old tossers like me, listening to Dance Anthems on Sunday night and in denial about the fact that they're getting old.......... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I know he's a wind up merchant, and my comments must make me sound like Victor Meldew, but with a 7year old daughter, I am very keen to lets say gently coax her into an outdoor lifestyle and give her something to go for.
It's just seems that whenever something like today events take place
someone takes a cheapshot and takes the piss

I agree. I've got a daughter of 10 and a son of 7, and we've been emphasising to both of them just what an achievement this is, and that E.M. has basically got where she is through her own efforts.

Although they've not done much more than pootle round the Solent in our boat, I think our kids both have a sense of what she has managed to do, though my daughter, in particular, doesn't really need further encouragement to harrass other people and deprive them of their money............

Don't worry about sounding like Victor Meldrew; it comes to us all /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

agree radio one is total rubbish, classic FM is great. Media types these days just say what suits the story or voice outlandish opionions to try to create news, or get them noticed.

talking of "grumpy old men" there is a web site dedicated to this with a forum

www.grumpieroldmen.co.uk

like wise grumpy old women, you can't have "neil hamilton" or "christine hamilton" as we've already bagged those names

Well done, but on the other hand.

A confirmed armchair boater writes.

Have heard several comments from radio folks and of articles in the press of people who have not been totally overwhelmed by B & Qs very wise investment of their marketing budget in yet another round the world trip.
Having seen the forerunners of this trip do the job with far less resources both human, technical and financial, is it perhaps forgivable that a few cynics will be forgiven for not thinking this to be the equal of the great challenges met and overcome by such folks as Knox johnson,Sir Chichester,Chay Blyth and the four french chaps.Probably even more folks about who have not made any headlines.

Re: Well done, but on the other hand.

With all the nail biting trips, dareing does I've done. Not to mention the harrowing tales I,ve told on here. Kim should have given me a Dukedom or at least 50% of IPC. Good luck to Ellen for trying to compete with Mucky Farters exploits. I cant think she's even got close yet!! Now if I could see her get that thing down the Lancaster canal. Then I would be impressed /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sheesh! Mooring alongside LJS and demanding lobsters with menaces hardly counts

Your boat is purely a floating dog kennel, so not suprised the cushions get peed on once in a while. Do you ever get to sea, or just play the 'organ' for unsupecting ditch crawlers
