Chris Evans / "The Snapper"

must have just missed you Richard. We berthed at MYC, near blush, for Saturday night. Pretty unnoticeable as we were maybe the smallest boat in MYC. Had birthday party on board so had a bar trawl till 5 am. Weather was fantastic wasn't it. We had glossy flat sea back to Antibes today

Before or after the horns ! Had to leave at 1900 for the 2150 back to LHR. I did my 0500 on Friday and am still paying the price !

Agreed weather was spot on !

ah we just missed you. Had no idea you were there, sorry. We arrived about 2000 and got our berth about 2100. We had dinner at Buddha then drinks first at Nikki then that new place Twiga. I had 4 hours sleep then had to move the boat! Weather today was particularly good. I had an hour swimming anchored off paloma beach

There is piece on CE written by EJ in the new Boat International he says the DJ wanted the name Snapper with the boat and the deal was struck accordingly with EJ having the name back if the SS is sold to new a player.

It seems all his boats have been Snappers over the years FWIW

Tee hee. Nice bit of wishful thinking but sadly not at all true. If a business makes a profit maybe you'd put it offshore to shelter the tax. But if it makes a loss what possible benefit is there of putting it in a tax haven ????!!

By declaring ALL World wide assets ( and liabilities) bringing it back onshore -
It's what little George et al has recently this Parliament encouraged .

Portofino you don't half write some tripe. If a business is loss making as you yourself say these ones are, everyone in UK including George Osborne would be happy for it to be offshore. It's only when you bring it onshore to the UK that you can use its losses to avoid UK taxes.

Your assertion that these superyacht owners are up to no good by putting their loss making yacht charter business in a tax haven is utterly daft

[ Huh ! That's what I have just said to answer your Q - " bring it onshore " therefore now we seemingly agree?

That's not my assertion -sorry if you interpreted it that way .

This Gov has passed aggressive disclosure law re offshore assets through the banking system ( Swiss banks for example)!-I realise this does not mater to mosts folks .
it's kinda backfired -cos some folkswho have large yachts / small jets / property etc have had enough warning of this coming to - have arranged affairs t o offset any liabilities against Uk tax -
In the boat world a vehicle could be a charter Co .

What benefits do you see of operating Snapper or such like - through a loss making charter Co apart from ending up eventually / offsetting the loss against Tax ?

My accountant tells me that its an arrangement that HMRC is well aware of and if you have several years of offsetting losses from a charter co against profits from another company, they may take the view that the charter company is not a legitimate trading co and is a tax evasion exercise. IMHO, if you're going to own a boat through a company set up for charter, it needs to be run as a proper business that at least looks like it's trying to make a profit. My guess is that a boat like Snapper, especially having a sleb owner, would attract enough charter business to be quite a profitable venture

By the way EJ is selling his Oyster 885. Very nice boat although in my opinion he must have been on the Magic mushrooms when he came up with the interior colour scheme.
