I am in the process of looking into fitting a/c for the med and maybe later the Carib. to a HR 46 it has a 6 KW gen set has anybody any ideas or recommendations.
Are you sure you need one? at anchor usually theres a breeze, and in marinas in places like Trinidad you can rent one and fit it over the fore hatch blowing straight through whilst your on shore power.
We ended up parked next to a few boats with a/c in nice quiet anchorages only to hear the generators and fans going most of the night!
If you can find a big empty anchorage then I guess they're OK.
I've sailed in the Med and Caribbean and never felt the need, just open all the hatches, and get rain covers made that sit nice and high, boom height.
Just a thought, I suppose if they're right about global warming you might need one one day.
generators at night can be quite anti social for anyone anchored near you, the advice as per the previous post is good, the only thing i have on my boat is mosquito screens and fans....keith
For shear international presence for servicing etc I would go for Marine Air also known as Taylor Made. I've been procrastinating over this one for a couple of years now and just about to face another summer in the Med without one
Cruisair at http://www.cruisair.com/cruisair/prod.html - don't know how they compare price wise but they are well regarded enough to be used in boats where the cost is not a consideration.
Thanks for the advice and info. I have decided to wait and see and have taken your advice. If I sweat a lot you will be blamed!!! I can always get it fitted in the med. next summer.
Please never anchor near me if you are using your generator!
Best a/c is an awning and windscoops for hatches and if in the Med put the boat ashore in July/August and go home! That way you will avoid the expense (if you were thinking of going near a marina eg 55 euros a night in Ibiza last week), the vast number of people and the crazy Italians, Spanish & French.
Ps you might also notice the people who fix a/c and generators have become very rich and busy - I wonder why!
