chocks, teak, stainless ?

Can anyone advise where I can obtain some teak, or similar, to make some new dinghy chocks ?

The teak will sit inside a stainless "U" that runs fore and aft on the bathing platform.

-and is this an easy job ? - Can I get a plan of the underwater section of the dinghy to ensure I get the correct shape on both ?

OR, is a stainless fabrication with "rubber" top bits any better ?

Any other advise appreciated.! - relevant to this though please !

wooden ones "age" whereas s/s will "get old, imho. Depends on the boat I suppose. dunno where to get teak where you are - a wood merchant will take an order - yellow pages?

For teak you need to be quite (very) handy woodworker. Use wire (like a coathanger) under the dinghy to transfer the hull form to workpiece. What's the dinghy made of - you made need something softer than teak for the thing to sit on, such as rubber, meaning that the form doesn't have to be correct to the millimetre.

Massively "rounding off" the chocks with a big "radius" on all corners/edges will make any slight imperfections dissappear and also make them less lethal to trip/fall over over/on.

G'Day Adrian,
To get the profile of your tender just cut a template from cardboard. Have you considered other materials? The white plastic board material (like bread boards are made of) seems to stand up very well, can't think of the trade name, no doubt someone will pick up the thread and remind us both.

Try KJ Howells for teak - I think they're in Poole.

If you want to use plastic, try UPVC but it's quite expensive for thick sheets and doesn't look half so nice as wood.

Best people for teak ,I think,are Robbins Timber . I fitted out my
Tradewind 33 using their wood and always found it first class quality
