Chocblock advice please

Not the point really, I just don't think it's a great idea. Some people just twist wires together and wrap them in sticky tape - that's not a great idea either but most of them will say they've never had an issue.

That is not the worst I have seen on a boat it the dreaded Wire nut.

The feed from the ceiling comes out half the jength of the fitting (a 1800mm one) from the wall. I just need about 500mm extra wire to reach the input to the driver.
Ah, I see. I should have guessed, actually, as I have just replaced the two centre-fed fluorescent tubes in my workshop with end-fed LED equivalents (which, incidentally, totally rock, man). In my case the old fittings were fed by a bit of flex from a junction box so I just used a longer bit of flex.
