Chiselers number in classic boat

[Blue-marlin]

Bought a Halmatic VT 56 and doing her up and found under the floor an chiselers number O.N.30G ect ended with weight number. Does anyone has a idea what this is, I phoned Halmatic heritage but wouldn’t help??? It’s purpose build for navy but cancelled whilst being build and gone to private buyers.

Sounds like a brutish part 1 Official Number and red registered tonnage.r

Yes: it’s a British Part One number. The tons are not weight, they are Net Register Tons. The Official Number and Tonnage should have been carved into the main beam, so if you found it under floor boards it has been “Re-purposed” as they say and might even be from a different boat.

BLUE MARLIN, Official Number 306344, hull moulded by Halmatic, built by Tough Bros of Teddington in 1964, 32.87 tons net, 46.19 tons Gross.

Signal letters: MHWR

LOA: 57ft, LWl: 51.7ft, beam 15.2ft, draft 3.7ft, 2 x 270 bhp 6 cylinder Caterpillar diesels, owned in 1974 by Mr & Mrs A.T.Clift of 25, Canterbury Road East, Ramsgate and kept at Ramsgate.

This is taken from Lloyd’s Register of Yachts for 1975.

A fine pedigree; Toughs were the Queen’s motor yacht builders. Oddly enough I have a childhood memory of watching from an upstairs window of my aunt’s house as a very large GRP hull was manoeuvred along the road to Toughs’. This would have been in the early Sixties. Might well have been BLUE MARLIN. Toughs are no longer in business but I bet they have an archive.

Since she has been on the Part One Register, she can go back on it.

Kukri, good evening and thanks for answering again I know it sounds stupid but I cannot find anything on google for more info about Blue Marlin she has Lloyd’s builders plaques with number referring to Halmatic vt and an Tough plaque but don’t know where to search
