Just been asked if I know a decent chippie/handyman who could do some light shipwrighting in the Levington area. The boat needs seacocks replacing and some minor GRP work before relaunching, but also replacement of rubbing strakes and extensive gelcoat work or filling/painting further down the line.

Nothing specialised, but the chap involved is none too young, and not confident about doing GRP work himself (his first GRP boat).

Any recommendations?

Richard of Medusa Marine rebuilt our not insubstantial bowsprit.
I also know of a few others for whom he has carried out major work.
The only number I have for him is 07831 160402.
Mudplugger of this parish may be able to assist further.

Jon Brett ex Watertaxi supremo of Brightlingsea!...I will try and dig out his mobile number and post it here...he is a first rate shipwright and has done some excellent work for me at very reasonable prices.

I tried to get hold of Jon a few weeks ago (07733 078503) but he was quite busy so he recommended I try Heritage Carpentry also in B'sea. Not seen the finished work yet but Derek has got the job (07717 410464)

Thank you!

Many thanks chaps. I have passed on the numbers, so that Alan can make contact and discuss his exact requirements with them direct.

Hope you are well - Pass to Alan that if he is in Levington the best man, and I have to say he did a first class job on Seabee, is Chris who is based in a Lorry in SYH by the Heads in the East Harbour (Just opposite the club vessel)

Chris lives on his own boat in the marina and his wife works in the Chandlery so it is not in his interest to be either pricey or ****.

He is normally knocking about or will accept a note on his van.
