My thread on the 'all in one' Chinese diesel heater seemed to be of interest to some people and I have now bought from Ebay an 8KW heater for £89 delivered. This heater has all the separate parts in the box and is the sort you would most likely buy if installing in a boat or other vehicle. I am going to install this one on the outside of another one of my log cabins but in essence this is very similar to how you might install in a boat. Either way this will show how everything hooks up etc.

Here is the first video which shows the unboxing and all the various components you receive for the £89 delivered. More to come

Weather has been pants today so difficult even to work up the enthusiasm to walk to the shed. I have made a little progress today by fitting the supplied mount and then some wood bearers and brackets suitable for my installation which is in a small lean too on the timber wall of the log cabin (externally to the room being heated). I also fitted the exhaust tube with a little fire cement and I actually used the Jubilee clip they supplied which on this one seemed ok. Dont use it in a boat though co this breaking with the heat would not be good at all

Decided to do a little more on the heater install today. Mounted it in the lean to shed and ducted the exhaust pipe through a heat sink and outside to the silencer. I used a length of copper pipe as the heat sink that I packed to the wood with lagging material.

Cut the hole into the cabin that will be heated.

Comming from a background of radio control jets I decided I would make up a little clunk weight system for the fuel pick up so that there are no leaks. I used some of the fuel tube that I had left over from a previous heater, a couple of ss nuts to weight the clunk down and 2 small O rings to hold the tube at the right position on the lid at the hole I drilled.

Just before it got dark I did a little more.

1) Fitted the tank
2) Installed the tick tick pump in its lovely little holder
3) mounted the exhaust..... Odd position I know but it has to go where it has to go. In a boat this is where the work is as well as the ducting
4) Fitted the inside grille in the shed to be heated

Well I have completed the install in the lean too shed that is ducted to heat the larger 5 x 5 m log cabin just to keep the chill of at times. All in cost was about £90 and it took about 3 hours of my time.

In a boat this would take a lot longer say 8 hrs as you have the ductwork and exhaust to seriously think about and how you will get the fuel to the heater. If you use the boats diesel tank this is interesting as you will need to tap into the tank at some point. In my boat I use a small (4 ltr) separate tank and my whole system excluding the ducting and exhaust system can be removed in about 5 mins should I need to for any reason.

Video below of the final install running. Just needs the wires tidying.

Important to note that this hearer has a grill over the intake with a fan very close. If you wanted to duct the main air to be heated then this intake would need to be modded in some way or perhaps buy a fitting that screws on that I bet exists.
