Chichister harbour entrance current

The flood tide is very gentle compared with the spring ebb. It should not be a problem esp between 2 and 3 hours after LW

Id be more worried about the depth if its windy and rough over the bar

Thanks, that's reassuring. First time I've been here on a spring and came in yesterday at half tide against the ebb motorsailing and for some time i could only make 1 knot.

Yes it goes out like its not intending to come back in again! Pretty much the same for all the solent harbours and Chichester is probably not the worst.

Now you have seen it I will edit my post to just a link to remove the imbedded image because its crown copyright

Don't know what all my fuss was about. Departed on the flood about 3 hours after LW which is about the time of the partial stand and it was running at less than 2 knots. Easy, but thanks all for being there when i wanted reassurance .

The fuss is generally about the ebb in a decent S breeze.
The flood in a strong N breeze can also make the chop distinctly lively where the channel runs N/S past HISC.
Sometimes this seems to cause people to try cutting the corner which can end in tears as there isn't a lot of water outside the channel.
