Chichester Marina Lock - closed 4th to 15th Feb

As the title suggests, I am told the lock (and hence the marina) is closed 4th to 15th Feb.

I've not found any links to tell me why?

Anyone know?

Tony

Hi

It is maintenance work on the lock gates. Apparently it is done every three years. If you want to use your boat you can move it out to another Premier Marina.

Di

Oh thank you.

Do you know anything about Birdham Pool? Google reports its a pile berth marina AND pontoons. Wish i had my almanac here. I would prefer pontoons.

Tony

Most berths are box, piles at outer with fixed pontoon at head of berth. There are some alongside fixed pontoon berths, but don't know if they are available for visitors.

We don't allow any old hoi-poloi(sp?) in here you know.

Not many pontoon berths free (I could check tomorrow); but there is a hammerhead that for most times appears to be available.
What size boat, draft?

Memo from Premier Marinas, if you are a berth holder and have registered your email adress, then the info arrives, provided that it doesn't go into SPAM

Dear Berth Holder,

Security Changes at ‘H’ and ‘R’ Pontoons

Chichester Marina will soon undertake security lock trials on the gates at bridgeheads ‘H’ and ‘R’. Berth Holders located on these pontoons may have noticed that we have recently introduced new magnetic locks and electronic fob readers to these bridgeheads and as of next week you will need your blue key fobs to access these pontoons.

Once the gate locks have been activated, we will send Berth Holders an electronic survey to get your feedback on how effective the trial has been. Although crime is a rarity at Chichester Marina, we take your security concerns extremely seriously and it is our intention to run this trial for two months, after which point we will review your feedback before making any further decisions on how to further improve security at the marina.

Lock Shutdown – Customer Notice

Chichester Marina’s lock shutdown is scheduled for 4th – 15th February 2013 inclusive, in order for us to carry out essential maintenance including servicing of the lock seals, replacement of the lock motors and repainting. Regrettably, during this period there will be no access in or out of the lock. However, you are very welcome to move your boat to either Southsea, Gosport or Port Solent marinas for the duration of the maintenance if you plan to use your boat during this time.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or concerns about the work, or would like to book a berth at another Premier Marina.

Kind Regards,

What are you buying?

Di

Grampian 34 http://www.grampianowners.com/G2-34/g234.html.

Bringing her down from Dell Quay to see what the engine is like and how she handles.

Spoke to a lovely lady at Birdham who says I can have the hammerhead. I've not done piles for years and not knowing how she handles is a little out of my comfort zone. Think I scared her :-).

I'll probably ground way before I get to Birdham lol.

Oooh they look nice! What is yours called - I'll look out for you!

http://cloud.premiermarinas.com/files/pdfs/tides/Chichester_tidetables.pdf there you go - no need for a grounding, though it can be entertainment for the crumblies in the dining room at CYC

Di

Oh thanks for that. I shall try not to entertain the bar.

Lots wrong with her but mostly structurally sound - listen out on VHF for gemini lol. Engine test is the most worrying point.

Birdham looks lovely.
