I spent 14 years in Chi harbour dinghy sailing I think i was lucky never got ill, jabbed for Hep A and B tho.

It really is unacceptable in this day and age. Part of the issue is people connecting rainwater guttering into the foul sewer network, very few places in the country have a combined sewer network contrary to popular belief, the other issue is many of the drains are clay pipes which are great but in clay soil they tend to move and then crack so when the water table rises it causes an inflow of ground water into the sewer.

In Portsmouth where there is a combined sewer they dug a huge hole in the ground and turned it into a storage chamber and then thats drained and treated when there is capacity at the treatment station.
