If you were so heeled that someone else could see your keel that 1.2m was probably sideways!

I was picturing it as bursting out the front of waves, rather than heeling over. Which is an even scarier situation when there isn't much depth, as you risk being dropped onto the bottom in a trough and having the keel punch up through the hull.

Coming in at one hour after LW last Friday with 1.9m tide height being reported on Chimet the lowest depth of water I recall seeing on the depth sounder was 3.4m.

The bottom was visible from seaward of the West Pole Beacon which was a bit unnerving.

I repeated this trip on Monday evening with 1.8 being reported on Chimet and 3.4m again being the least depth.

On both times when coming in on the flood tide the wave heights had mostly dropped down by the time the shallowest bits were encountered.

The bar and entrance normally account for a mast or two at a dinghy chanpionship week at HISC.
The worst thing is when you find you are surfing downwind and suddenly the apparent wind is on the nose!
