Chichester bar conditions on Sunday

Re: Chichester Bar: Trying once more . .

Last Sunday we found that the waves were larger further out. By the time we were passing the marks things were calming down a bit.

Chimet was showing a wave height of 1.2 metres but we experienced some bigger stuff a bit further out.

I did point out on Monday the significance of establishing West Pole Beacon where it is AND that bigger waves were forming even further out at HW-1. Hopefully the message got home that the best route is a much wider sweep than most skippers consider necessary AND that the recommended tidal window in onshore winds of 30+ knots shrinks to HW-2 to HW.

(I see that the Harbourmaster's own notes, like the pilot books, suggest HW-3 to HW+1 and I am not a happy bunny! Yes, it is up for discussion.)

Re conditions this afternoon (Friday), one clever guru has already pointed out that you can get through to CHIMET yourselves on the web.
Note: there seems to be some confusion between tidal height and wave height readings. Of course the former goes down towards LW - it's the wave height which should concern you more.

Finally, I read e-mails more often than this Forum, and am happy to be contacted at any time and will provide a telephone number. But no deep breathing please . . .
