Chichester Bar accident - 6 people rescued

You do have to wonder what they were doing out there yesterday: there was a large swell running across the bar, and there is no way I would have taken out FP, let alone a small rib. Apparently “Hayling Rescue” was on scene (shown in the pic), but this isn’t mentioned in the news reports.

“Two lifeboat crews were deployed after receiving a paged message from Solent Coastguard after passing yacht had made Mayday call after seeing the boat capsize.

Three men and three women had to be plucked from the two metre high swell where they were described as ‘showing signs of shock’. The casualties were transferred to a waiting Atlantic 85 lifeboat where the group were taken ashore for medical care.“

It says it was Thursday afternoon which was less windy, but still on spring ebb so not wise anyway.

If this “staycationing” trend continues and the number of active boaters + other users increases the pressure for mandatory training and regulation increases .

Of course the helm + crew might be fully RYA d up , A file of course certificates does not trump Darwinism .

It featured on Hayling Rescues Facebook account and by all accounts it was an excellent outcome, and a good response by all three agencies working in parallel, Hayling Rescue, RNLI, and the Conservancy patrol boat.. good to see/hear..

It's difficult to get a sense of scale from the photo, and photos tend to flatten waves for some reason.
But that pole on the RHS is sticking out of the water by maybe 10-12ft.
