By way of giving ShayII back his thread, but in view of the interest, here's a site which may answer some of the questions about the bay.

It's a fine area - we've been looking down there as well but unlike most forumites here we currently have the advantage of living in NJ, about 3 hours away to the north. You could sail your entire life in Chesapeake and never explore all of it.

It does have an interesting reputation for hot, flat calms in the summer though, out of which a 40-50 knot squall will come along from nowhere and knock you over. There are the other usual late season US hazards as well, like storm surges, hurricanes etc so you need to keep your wits about you but it is a most impressive stretch of water with some beautiful places to visit.

I haven't found anywhere for less than $100-110 a foot in marina's (plus winter storage, please note) although I'm mostly looking at NJ and the northern Chesapeake. Up towards NY and northern NJ it can be twice that, although that's still comparable to most of the UK and there's a lot more choice. I'd be interested to know about lower cost alternatives in the area for a 32-35 footer.

Also interested in the RCD/back-to-UK scenario discussed earlier, but that's another thread for the future...

No connection of course. Just one of the ones I found on the Baydreaming site.

Another excellent source of info can be found at Sailnet.com
They maintain a listserver with lists on a wide range of topics for people to shar info.
Their Chesapeake Bay list is at http://list.sailnet.net/read/
If you ask about marinas on the Chesapeake Bay list you're liable to get more info than you really know what to do with.

No connection to Sailnet...etc....
