Second the Cherub
We were there last summer and adopted this as our haven. Good friendly service, good beer, and good food. A wee bit cramped, but this adds to the charm. Met some firendly locals also.

13,Higher Street. Go inland from about half way along the Lower Embankment - cross over the one way street that runs from the Lower Ferry to the Boat Float, then climb steps or go up a lane to the next street. That is Higher Street.
Cherub is a very old (1380 ish) half timbered building. Small bar with restaurant upstairs.
