cherish your harbour master - a rant!

I think he's challenging you to a race in sailing boats. This should be interesting......

He does it regularly if you had the endurance to read back through his previous posts - that's why I bought it up to cut to the chase as it's where we usually end up after going all round the houses.

Seajets world can be fascinating sometimes, he is known as a bit of a Walter Mitty. When he runs out of arguments which get increasingly fantastic, he starts to suggest other people don't know what they're are talking about because they don't have a serious boat (ie an Anderson 22 trailer sailer), obviously can't even spell seamanship, let alone know what it is and he can beat them into stupefied submission and destroy any argument by demonstrating his sailing prowess in one obscure dingy or another. A bit like some sort of super hero I suppose...;)

He challenged me to a boat handling competition in a "boat of my choice" when I said that I thought it was a good idea to mark of a separate swimming area where boats weren't allowed - he back pedalled quickly when I said we'd do it in RIBs; he challenged me to a dinghy race when I said that there was some skill in riding a jet ski properly - but back pedalled quickly when someone said that him riding a jet ski properly with no skill would prove it better and offered to provide one and put him on it; and now he is challenging me to a dinghy race to prove there are vandals on Newport town quay...:D

I don't really know quite how that last one will work but I am sure he will be back to tell us... he usually does.

I have told him before that I have reached a stage in life where I only sail boats with a bar, a double berth and a heads.

No wonder you two hit it off so well.

Oh no now you have done it ........

Thats a cue for a photograph of the Silent Running Khazi, combined with the palatial forecabin and extensive wine cellar in the Bilge of well known 22 footer.

You forgot the "posting pictures of Harriers" stage. Not had that in this thread yet. Come on Andrew, jump to it...

When I suggested it last time the answer was rubber ducks; just line up two matched sailing boats, and have another photographer handy, they'd better bring a stopwatch for me and an alarm clock for whenever he makes it...:)

Strange, since I suggested two matching sailing boats it's all gone quiet...

I could possibly arrange two Anderson 22's, l'escargot would be welcome to bring a crew of his choice, I'd go with or without crew as he wishes, or if that's too much like ' home turf ' the club could probably supply a couple of dinghies, various levels but as we're getting on a bit the junior section jobs might be best ! :)

So, tell me, how is this related to vandalism in Newport Harbour? I'm sure I'm not the only one waiting to hear :encouragement: oh and Angus is still waiting for his Harrier picture ;)

I thought we had moved on now to a challenge of seamanship? Personally I don't think a gentle bob around a few buoys in a couple of dinghies is going to prove much. I'm more in favour of abandoning you both mid-Atlantic in a pair of Avons with nothing more than a sextant, a tin of spam and a fish hook........ First one back wins.

No, we're still going through the dinghy race stage, seamanship is next, then I point out he hasn't even launched his boat in a couple of seasons and he goes all sulky for a bit - we've got a script to stick to here you know...;)

I'd go for your challenge though - as long as I can take my copy of "The Bombard Story" with me :encouragement:

If Angus wants more Harrier pictures all he has to do is PM me with his e-mail address and I'll happily arrange for his inbox to be crammed, sideways.:)

Vandalism in Newport IOW was not the original context of this thread, but you denied there is such a thing and I showed there is...

I also remarked that it's sad as the Isle Of Wight has a lot of wasted potential.

Meanwhile you are still trying to evade my challenge, surely as you see fit to misquote me out of context you can sail better than me ? :)

You introduced the idea that there is a vandalism problem on in Newport Harbour and failed to show there was. The best anyone else has come up with is a single reference in 2003. Once again you post old and uninformed comments and then go off at all silly tangent when it gets pointed out to you. House prices, dinghy races, all sorts...

You never did answer my question about when you came to Newport and saw the vandalism did you? You're very good at evading questions and giving vagues answers - do read back and check what you've said before though because sometimes your answers contradict each other... :encouragement:
