Cherbourg Trip Statistics

Tom,

As I recall the Whisky Zulu on this (std "wide berth requested") it stated that she was towing two arrays of 1200 metres.

This suggests that they were doing a hi-res 3D survey and that the target imaging depths were under 600m, which is shallow for seismic. This is probably to do with hoovering up pockets of oil which remain in the Witch Farm prospect, which is coming off plateau (I believe).

Tom

They would if they were using the source we're currently proposing for one tricky job we're bidding: 100kg packs of dynamite!

Plan is to suspend them from buoys in the water and fire them from a safe distance. In case of misfires, we're providing a high power rifle to sink the buoy.

Re: That\'s another point to Kim Holman then

Perhaps because Mr Pye made a few suggestions for improvements? I believe for example he liked to be able to go backwards when required......

Seriously though H & P were responsible for some sweet boats over the years.

Re: Cherbourg Trip - Just got back

Sunday - cracking run up to Cap de la Hague then broad reach through the race to St PP, seven hours. Jim (skippering) was gob smacked when we touched nine knots SOG.
Monday evening - Jim skippering again, wind F5 on the nose up the race then turned South for Poole, rolled out the genoa, engine off, then crack as the sheet eye was ripped out of the genoa. Managed to role it in ok then lash it, so we ended up motor-sailing back with the wind on the beam, Sixteen Hours.
Wednesday - Slept on boat, Jim caught the train this morning, I took the Genoa into Kemps (they are based at Wareham), should be ready next week.
I felt for you all, beating out then beating back.
Great w/e we should do it often.

Re: Cherbourg Trip - Just got back

Just to conclude -

Got 0918 Wareham to Woking, coach to Heathrow, 1405 (delayed to 1430) Heathrow to Aberdeen, taxi to house and home at 1630ish.

A wonderful weekend, though more like a week for me! One of the benefits of early retirement!

SWMBO had a nice piece of liver and onions for my supper, then it was bath and out like a light.

It was really great to meet you all, and I look forward to same again next year!!

Jim

Re: Arcturus

As a channel virgin (I've got my garlic to prove it) I can honestly say, I totally, 101%, enjoyed the weekend ... What a fantastic time !! still buzzing about it now :-)
Arcturus was unreal - felt totally safe with everyone around me even in the force 9 winds (well thats what I tell everyone in the pub) Cant wait to go back out (ribs and all)

Thanks to all aboard .....

See you all soon :-)

Re: Arcturus

Tony! I thought it was the Solent only for you from now on, or has the SWMBO sympathy created an appetite for cracked ribs?
Don't know if we can keep destroying the Galley though!

YOU TURNCOAT.

I let you have a decent SO and you break that.
You go and buy one of these Human Resources thingies and break that.
Which dredger did you hit this time.

BTW, will Hysteria be ready for the Christmas trip?

Now, MY SO does not break engine mounts.
He says.
fingers crossed.
toes crossed.
eyes crossed.
everything crossed.

Hugh

Anyone remember the days when Taiyo was the greatest thing afloat?

Seems a long time ago now.
