Any ideas as to when the scuttlebutt cruise might be this year.

If I remember rightly there was talk of a early summer / May sail across to France sometime as well or was I mistaken?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Consequently, the Yacht club bar and restaurant, l'Equipage has been booked for the evening of Sept 17th. However, from the manager's tone of voice, I reckon it's safe. That weekend the tides are halfway between neaps and springs.

Nothing else has been arranged yet apart from the date and venue, nor will it be until next season so the nature of the event and the catering, etc is still up for grabs and discussion, but I don't reckon we need to start worrying about that for 9 months or so.

So, if you're interested in Chbg05, for now could you just block the date of that weekend in your diairies and not let your sons and daughters get married, have children or go off to Uni on those days!

A different venue might be nice if there was to be an early summer cruise .. Fecamp? St Vaast? St Peter Port?

Fecamp would suit me nicely.

I can see that for those people west of the IoW that this presents as much of a problem to them as venues in the Cherbourg vicinity or further west do to me.

As in another thread there was a lot of interest in Ostend, why don't we arrange an East Coast Suttlebut run on Ostend? It goes against 20 years of navy training, but I might even volunteer to organise it.
 
The majority has spoken: la Coruna

I think it's pretty clear that the decision has been taken to go to la Coruna. I was there last year, and can recommend it highly,especiallty if you don't like visitng shops that are open, or eating out very much, and prefer to look at a sea front designed by Senor Felipe Everest, the spanish window merchant. My favourite bit of la Coruna is the town hall, which has a circular flower bed 10yards diameter, planted up with flowers to say "No Parking here - staff only". I can't wait until we adopt the Euro and have a similar progressive and fun-loving government, rather than the utter waste that goes on in the UK.

1st choice Fecamp; somewhere else Dieppe: well I would say that as I'd be going from Brighton. it would mean I could take my own boat and not have to cadge a lift.
 
Re: East Coast

For the last 15 years there has been a Colne rally to Ostend RYCO) normally around the last weekend in July. Passage Race/ Cruise/Raggie / Stinkie et al, Open to all E.C. boaties. All prizes are sponsored, and entry fee covers two night's moorings. Meal on the Sat. night usually works out about £20. each. Bar stay's open till the last person leaves ( Breakfast?). Run by Wivenhoe & Colne YC. First start ( of 3)of B'sea is about sparrowcrack on the Friday am, so most all of the sail contingent are crossing the lanes in sight of somebody,and arrive before it get's dark. MoBo's seem to leave when the bar shuts @ lunch time, to get to Ostend for when it opens. Won't be ther this year 'cos am still building, but if any one is interested...pm me.
