Chentleman\'s Cruise 2007

OK
Claymore will not be back at Kilmelford until the first week in June.

PM discussions seem to suggest that chartering a boat for weekend, large enough for 6+ will be quite a pricey exercise and probably only feasible very early or late season as the boats are all at work once the season gets underway properly.

We've always gone for the Early May bank holiday weekend. I'm planning to sail north at Whitsuntide and keep the boat up there until sometime in August, then sail south again.

Whit Wey? When?

FWIW, we're once again planning to sail from the Clyde back to Appin at Easter, 6/9 April, and maybe a few days either side. The plan, as usual, is Mull of Kintyre to McCuaigs Bar (Rathlin Island for the social side), and then north to Argyll.

Trouble is, that passage at easter is prone to some heavy weather, and I think our success rate is about 1 in 3 for that time of the year. So, we could be going by the canal. Chartering's usually cheapish at Easter (we used to do it). I expect prices will start to increase at around the May weekend.

When's Whit? Izzat the Spring Bank Holiday 28/5 (we don't do foreign holidays here)? Could maybe have a meet when you're coming north.

Where does the cruise usually take place? Has anyone got a boat big enough to take 6+... if so, you could work it around that, and time of year wouldnt be an issue.

Alba rarely have all their boats out on the traditional CC weekend if past years are anything to go by. I'm going up to Dunstaffnage tomorrow and a quiet word with my old pal Terry might produce a slightly better than commercial rate - no promises mind.

What sort of size were you thinking of?

wow .. jings, whits up? thon threy alba dinnae rely oan a twa year auld copy orra oban times fer navigation, maps an ither matters vital tae a marinner wishing tae avoid orra yon rocks, jist like cuan ...
